The Porcellio laevis “Dairy Cow” are very popular woodlice in bioactive terrariums, both for their distinctive spotted appearance and their effectiveness. They help to break down organic waste (dead leaves, decaying wood, food scraps, small molds) and contribute to keeping the substrate cleaner and more stable.
This generally active and quite visible species is perfect for quickly establishing a colony in a well-fed bioactive terrarium, with a good leaf litter and a moisture gradient.

- continuous leaf litter (base)
- supplements: vegetable pieces, La Swamp woodlouse food, etc. (in small amounts)
- Calcium: always have a source available (cuttlefish bone, calcium, well-dried eggshells, etc.)
- Warning: Porcellio laevis can be very greedy: avoid overfeeding (mold/mites) and always keep decomposing leaves/wood available. If you have very tender plants, make sure there is enough base food.
