Tamarind leaves (Tamarindus indica) are an interesting tropical botanical addition to enrich a natural decor, both in bioactive terrariums and natural/blackwater aquariums. They gradually decompose and become an excellent support for microfauna (terrarium) and biofilm (aquarium), encouraging grazing by shrimp and certain snails.
In aquariums, they can release tannins (intensity varies depending on the batch and dosage), helping to create slightly amber water and a more “biotope” atmosphere. In terrariums, they add structure to the soil and contribute to the living cycle by feeding the microfauna.
Format
- Net weight: 1 oz
Highlights
- 100% natural (possible variations in size/color)
- In terrariums: litter + micro-habitats + food for microfauna
- In aquariums: support for biofilm + tannins (variable effect)
- Provides hiding spots and resting areas (shrimp, fry, microfauna)
- Gradual decomposition: lasting benefits
Usage (terrarium)
- Place the leaves on the surface of the substrate to create a litter layer.
- Layer them to increase hiding spots and humid zones.
- Replace/add when the leaves are well decomposed.
Usage (aquarium)
- Rinse quickly.
- Optional: pre-soak 12–24 h (or quick boil 1–2 min) to help them sink faster and control initial coloration.
