Kumbuk leaves (often used as tropical botanicals for natural tanks) are excellent for creating a rich leaf litter and a “forest” decor, both in bioactive terrariums and natural/blackwater aquariums. They gradually decompose and become an ideal support for microfauna (terrarium) and biofilm (aquarium), which particularly attracts shrimp and certain snails.
In aquariums, they can release tannins and other organic compounds that contribute to slightly amber water (depending on dosage) and a more natural ambiance. In terrariums, they enrich the soil, create micro-habitats, and support the living cycle.
Format
- Net weight: 0.5 oz
Highlights
- 100% natural (possible size/color variations)
- In terrariums: litter + micro-habitats + food for microfauna
- In aquariums: support for biofilm + tannins (variable effect)
- Provides hiding spots and resting areas (shrimp, fry, microfauna)
- Progressive decomposition: lasting benefits
Usage (terrarium)
- Place the leaves on the surface of the substrate to create a litter layer.
- Layer them to increase hiding spots and humid zones.
- In bioactive setups: let the microfauna do the work; replace/add as needed.
Usage (aquarium)
- Rinse quickly.
- Optional: pre-soak for 12–24 hours (or quick boil for 1–2 minutes) to help them sink faster and control initial coloration.
